Adam Walsh Act
(or the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006)
This is the federal law aimed at creating a uniform system of registration and tracking of former sex offenders across the country. So far only some states, territories and tribal jurisdictions have fully implemented the act, but currently Oklahoma has "substantially implemented SORNA" per the SMART office.
Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act
This is title 1 of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006. SORNA provides a comprehensive set of minimum standards for sex offender registration and notification in the United States. SORNA aims to close potential gaps and loopholes that existed under prior law and generally strengthens the nationwide network of sex offender registration and notification programs.
Office of Sex Offender Sentencing, Monitoring, Apprehending, Registering and Tracking
The SMART office is a part of the US Department of Justice. This office oversees the implementation of SORNA and provides information and technical assistance to jurisdictions working to implement SORNA.
Center for Sex Offender Management
CSOM is a part of the US Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs. The Center for Sex Offender Management (CSOM) is a national clearinghouse and technical assistance center that supports state and local jurisdictions in the effective management of sex offenders. CSOM aims to provide those responsible for managing sex offenders with ready access to the most current knowledge by synthesizing and disseminating research and effective practices to the field; and by offering specialized training and technical assistance on a wide variety of issues related to sex offender management.
OKlahoma Coalition for Sex Offender Management
Originally formed in 2001 as the Sex Offender Management Team under the jurisdiction of the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, OKCSOM is now reorganized as a non-profit corporation and functions as an advocacy and educational organization, seeking to educate the leaders and citizens of our state about best practices in sex offender management.
